How to Unlock a Visible Phone — Verizon's Record, Visible's Brand

Visible is a Verizon brand, not a separate network. A Visible phone is locked to Verizon's record, which means the unlock follows Verizon's published policy — including the 2026 rule change — and not a Visible-specific one. That matters because Visible support will often point you at Verizon, and Verizon will point you back at Visible.

Short answer. Start with the $0.03 check to confirm the lock and the carrier. If you are the account holder and the device meets the carrier’s conditions, the unlock is normally free — the operator’s own page is Visible support. If you are not, or the carrier refuses, the record has to be released from the supply side, and the services at the bottom of this page are the ones that apply.

What the message actually means

The activation policy is held against the IMEI on Verizon's side. No code exists for an iPhone.

Visible devices are prepaid, so the prepaid timers apply: Verizon's prepaid devices are locked for a long period of paid, active service before automatic release.

The phone is not damaged and it is not stolen by default: the manufacturer holds an activation policy against the IMEI that names the carrier the device may activate on. Until that record changes, every other SIM is refused at activation — Wi-Fi keeps working, which is why a locked handset can look perfectly healthy in a shop.

What you are seeing

Step 1 — check before you spend

  1. Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock.
  2. The Visible/Verizon eligibility check ($0.08) returns the lock state and eligibility.
  3. The Verizon blacklist check ($0.04) before buying.

Step 2 — what the carrier’s policy says

Visible follows Verizon's device unlocking policy, which distinguishes prepaid from postpaid timers and was updated on 27 January 2026. Prepaid devices need a long period of paid, active service; suspended days do not count.

Reported or fraud-flagged devices are never auto-unlocked.

Published requirements

The current wording is always on the carrier’s page: Visible support.

Step 3 — if you qualify, get the free unlock

  1. Confirm the service period on your Visible account.
  2. Contact support and ask them to escalate a device unlock to Verizon with the IMEI.
  3. Restart with the new SIM.

Step 4 — if you do not qualify

If the timer has not run, or the record is flagged, Visible cannot help and the IMEI has to be released from the supply side. The tiers below cover it and are refunded on refusal.
