iPhone Unlock
Unlock Canadian Carrier iPhones (Rogers, Fido, Bell, Telus, Koodo)
Canada made carrier unlocking free in 2017, so a Canadian iPhone still showing a lock is usually blacklisted, financed, or from an older contract.
Last reviewed 2026-10-26
Since December 2017, Canadian carriers must unlock devices free of charge on request. That legal requirement is exactly why so many Canadian iPhones on the resale market are still locked — the ones that were free to unlock have already been unlocked.
What remains in the locked pool falls into three groups: financed devices, blacklisted devices, and older models with defective records.
The four carriers and their listings
- Rogers and Fido: a shared premium listing covering iPhone 4 through 18 and selected Android devices.
- Bell and MTS: clean listings split by generation, with a separate iPhone 16 listing.
- Telus and Koodo: clean and premium listings across all iPhone generations.
- SaskTel and TBayTel: a separate regional listing because their records sit outside the national carriers.
Important
The Bell listing explicitly warns there is no refund for a wrong model or wrong carrier. A SIM lock check costs a fraction of the unlock for that reason alone. Why the carrier refused the free unlock
- The device is still on a payment plan.
- The account the device belongs to is not in good standing.
- The device is reported lost or stolen.
- The device record is inconsistent, for example a warranty replacement.
Ordering
- 1SIM lock check — confirm the carrier is one of the four.
- 2GSMA blacklist check — Canadian carriers report promptly.
- 3Pick the listing for that carrier and generation.
- 4Re-check after completion; Canadian unlocks usually apply within hours.

Frequently asked questions
Are Canadian iPhone unlocks really free?
Through the carrier, yes, for eligible devices. Third-party services exist for devices the carrier will not release.
Does a Rogers unlock work on Bell?
Once unlocked, the device accepts any Canadian or foreign SIM. The unlock is not carrier-specific after release.
Why is Fido grouped with Rogers?
Fido is a Rogers brand and shares the Rogers device database, so one listing covers both.
