Unlock Rogers, Bell, Telus, Telcel, AT&T Mexico & Claro Devices

Canadian and Mexican carriers sit outside the US unlock channels, with their own activation policies. This guide covers Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Koodo, Telcel, AT&T Mexico and Claro devices.

Canadian carriers were ordered by the CRTC to unlock devices for free, but the release still has to happen in their system — a phone that was reported lost, is blacklisted, or was sold before the policy changed still arrives locked.

Mexican carriers are the opposite: financed devices are standard, so most Telcel, AT&T Mexico and Claro devices need a premium or financed-plan unlock path.

Country by country

  • Canada (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Koodo, Virgin): free unlock through the carrier since 2017, so a device that is still locked is usually blacklisted, financed, or from an old contract.
  • Mexico (Telcel / AT&T Mexico / Movistar): financed devices dominate — use the premium tier and expect a longer turnaround.
  • Claro (all countries): bundled carrier services for Colombia, Chile, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.
  • Other LatAm: check the EMEA / other-countries group; most are covered by the generic premium unlock.

The check-first workflow

For Canadian devices especially, the report is the product. If the GSMA blacklist entry is positive, no unlock exists and the correct answer is to walk away from the purchase. Run the SIM lock check and the GSMA check together, then decide.

  1. 1SIM lock + carrier check on the IMEI.
  2. 2GSMA worldwide blacklist check.
  3. 3If clean and locked: order the Canada / Mexico unlock service.
  4. 4If blacklisted: use an unbar (not unlock) service, or do not buy the device.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Are Canadian iPhone unlocks free?

Yes, through the carrier directly since December 2017 — but only for devices the carrier considers eligible. Third-party services are for devices the carrier will not release.

Do Telcel devices work in the US after unlock?

Yes, once the carrier lock is removed the device accepts US SIMs. Confirm the model supports the US LTE/5G bands before relying on it for daily use.
