iPhone Unlock
Unlock a UK iPhone on O2, EE, Vodafone or Three
UK networks have offered free unlocking since 2019, so a UK iPhone still locked is usually financed, blacklisted or on a sub-brand record. This page covers the four networks and their listings.

Since the UK free-unlock rule took effect, any UK iPhone should be unlocked on request once it is paid off. Devices that remain locked therefore tell you something: they are financed, flagged, or sitting on a sub-brand record the main network will not release.
The four UK networks each have their own listings, and Vodafone's are split into clean and premium tiers.
Listings by network
- O2 and Tesco Mobile: a combined clean listing, since Tesco Mobile runs on O2.
- EE (including the legacy T-Mobile / Orange records): an instant listing and a premium listing for generations where the clean channel fails.
- Vodafone UK: a clean listing covering iPhone 4 through 17 plus Samsung, and a premium listing for iPhone XS through 16.
- Three UK: covered through the broader UK/Europe listings on the iPhone side.
Important
Legacy records matter in the UK. An iPhone sold as EE may be recorded as T-Mobile or Orange, which is a different listing on some tiers. Why the free unlock was refused
- The device is still being paid for on a monthly plan.
- The device was reported lost or stolen to the network.
- The record is on a business account that has since closed.
- The device is a network-branded sub-brand model with its own policy.
Ordering
- 1Run a SIM lock check and confirm the network name exactly as reported.
- 2Run a GSMA blacklist check — UK networks report promptly and the flag travels.
- 3Pick clean or premium based on whether the device is likely financed.
- 4After completion, test with a non-UK SIM to confirm the policy applied.

Frequently asked questions
Is unlocking a UK iPhone really free?
Through the network, yes, for eligible paid-off devices. Third-party listings are for devices the network will not release.
Does a UK unlock work in the EU?
Yes. Once the activation policy is cleared the device accepts any SIM worldwide.
What is a premium UK listing for?
Devices that the clean channel rejects — typically financed handsets or records with a payment flag.
